Tibetan Dragon Carpet

There's a reason you see dragons on monastery walls, temple doors, and the rugs beneath monks' feet.

In Tibetan culture, the dragon doesn't represent destruction, it represents mastery. Mastery over the elements, over inner obstacles, over the chaos of an undisciplined mind. Dragons are Dharma protectors, sacred guardians believed to control the weather, bring rain to parched fields, and shield practitioners on their path to awakening. When a Tibetan weaver knots a dragon into a carpet, they're placing a guardian in your home.

This hand-knotted Tibetan dragon carpet features a powerful dragon motif rendered in bold, traditional style - coiling body, flowing mane, outstretched claws, and a posture that conveys both movement and strength. Set against a rich ground color, the dragon commands the full composition, bordered by traditional design elements that frame it with balance and structure.

How It's Made

Hand-knotted by artisans in Kathmandu, Nepal. The dragon's detailed anatomy - individual scales, whiskers, cloud-flame elements demands precise color placement and consistent tension across hundreds of thousands of knots. At 100 knots per square inch, every detail holds. Production takes 10 to 14 weeks.

Materials

100% fine New Zealand wool on a cotton foundation. Dense 4mm pile. Colorfast dyes ensure the dragon's rich tones stay vivid for years. Safe for children and pets. Fringed edges finished by hand.

Available Sizes

4×6 ft · 5×8 ft · 6×9 ft · 8×10 ft · 9×12 ft · 10×13 ft · 10×14 ft Custom sizes available.

Where to Place It

Dragon carpets are traditionally placed in living areas and studies as symbols of strength and protection. In modern interiors, this rug works as a bold focal point beneath a coffee table, in a home office, or in an entryway that deserves a strong first impression.

A Note on Handmade

No two dragons will look exactly the same. The individual weaver's interpretation how they curve the tail, tilt the head, shape the claws gives each carpet its own character. That's not inconsistency. That's craft.
