Endless Knot Tibetan Rug with Dragon

At the center of this hand-knotted Tibetan dragon rug, a coiled dragon turns within a circle, an ancient symbol of protection, strength, and benevolence in Himalayan culture. Unlike the fire-breathing dragons of Western mythology, Tibetan dragons are guardians. In Buddhist tradition, their thunderous voices are said to awaken us from delusion.

Surrounding the dragon, the Endless Knot, one of the Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism weaves along the border in an unbroken line with no beginning and no end. It represents the interconnectedness of all things and the endless cycle of wisdom and compassion. Together, the circle dragon and Endless Knot make this more than a handmade area rug, it's a piece of Himalayan heritage woven into wool.

How It's Made

Each rug is hand-knotted by skilled artisans in Kathmandu, Nepal, using traditional Tibetan carpet weaving techniques passed down through generations. The process involves multiple craftspeople from carding and spinning the wool to dyeing, knotting, and finishing and takes 10 to 14 weeks depending on size. At 100 knots per square inch, the weave is dense enough to hold fine detail in the dragon's scales and the interlocking geometry of the Endless Knot, while maintaining a soft, plush 4mm pile underfoot.

The rich red ground, a color traditionally achieved from madder root in early Tibetan rug making gives this handwoven wool rug a warm, grounding presence in any room.

Materials

Made from 100% fine New Zealand wool on a cotton foundation. The wool is naturally resilient, colorfast, and gentle safe for homes with children and pets. No synthetic fibers, no chemical treatments. The fringed edges are finished by hand, completing the traditional look. This is a natural, eco-friendly handmade rug built to last for generations.

A Note on Handmade

Because every knot is tied by hand, no two rugs are identical. Expect subtle variations in color saturation and texture, these are the natural marks of a handwoven Tibetan carpet made by a real person, not a machine.
