- Amitabha Buddha is the Father-Buddha of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, and thus compassion is his active reflex nature – here lies his chief significance. Amitabha means “Infinite Light.”
- Amitabha rests his hands in the gesture of meditation while holding the begging bowl of an ordained Buddhist monk – a symbol of infinite openness and receptivity.
- He exhibits Samadhi Mudra with his two palms folded face up one on top of the other lying on his lap and has a lotus sign. When represented on the stupa, he always faces the west.
