In the past, these bowls were produced with the Himalayan tradition adopted by monks for their secretive chants. During the time, a total of seven sacred metals made a Singing Bowl. However, their production simplified with time. The Himalayan people started making a simpler type of Singing Bowl with 80% copper and 20% tin with an intent to make it more accessible.

There was a time when people used these medicinal Bowls as a basic kitchen utility tool and a storage item. Interestingly, during the limitation of the legal tenders, the bowls were presented as a kind of currency. However, trading such bowls as a currency is no longer applicable. The thickness, weight, and composition of materials used in the production of bowls measure the value of a Singing Bowl. Typically, the heavier it is, the higher value it possesses.
